On February 8th, 1831, in Delaware, the first African-American female physician, Rebecca Lee Davis (now known as Rebecca Lee Crmpler) was born. Daughter of Absolum and Matilda, Rebecca was raised - not into slavery - by her aunt who influenced her future as a doctor. Rebecca's aunt would medically treat her neighbors and by watching her aunt, Rebecca knew that she wanted to help others too.
" I early conceived a liking for, and sought every opportunity to relieve the suffering of others." - Rebecca Lee Crumpler
